Sri Lanka rewards the traveller who moves slowly. In a single week you can stand beneath a fifth-century rock fortress, walk a colonial rampart above the Indian Ocean, and watch mist pour over tea terraces at 1,900 metres. The secret is the route — and not having to drive it yourself.
Day 1–2 · Colombo & the Cultural Triangle
Begin in Colombo to shake off the flight, then head north into the Cultural Triangle. Dambulla’s cave temples and the lion rock of Sigiriya are the headline acts, and they are best taken at opposite ends of the day — Sigiriya at dawn before the heat and the crowds, Dambulla in the golden late afternoon.
Because your chauffeur handles the logistics, you can linger at a village lunch or detour to Pidurangala for the classic view of Sigiriya from across the plain.
Day 3–4 · Kandy & the tea hills
Drop south to Kandy, the last royal capital, for the Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic and the vast Peradeniya botanic gardens. From there the road climbs into hill country — Ramboda’s waterfalls, Nuwara Eliya’s colonial bungalows, and a working tea estate for a tour and tasting.

- ✓Pack a light layer — evenings above 1,500 m are genuinely cool

Day 5–6 · Ella & the descent to the coast
Ella is the island’s most photogenic town: the Nine Arches Bridge, Little Adam’s Peak, and Ravana Falls all sit within a short drive. Spend a slow morning here before the long, scenic descent toward the south coast.
Day 7 · Galle & the southern coast
End inside the walls of Galle Fort — a living Dutch-built quarter of boutiques, cafés, and salt-bleached ramparts. It is the perfect final chapter before your transfer back to the airport.
